Itinerary

Introduction

The state of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) brings together three incredibly different worlds. Hindu Jammu and Katra, in the south, are the state's rail hubs and a major draw for domestic pilgrims. Muslim Kashmir is India's Switzerland, attracting hordes of local tourists seeking cool summer air, alpine scenery and Srinagar’s romantic houseboat accommodation. And then there's the Himalayan land of Ladakh, which for most foreigners is J&K’s greatest attraction. Its disarmingly friendly, ethno-linguistically Tibetan people are predominantly Buddhist; their timeless monasteries are set between arid canyons and soaring peaks, while emerald-green villages nestle photogenically in highland deserts.

Day 1

Srinagar Arrival

Meet upon arrival and transfer to Deluxe Houseboats/Hotel. Late afternoon Shikara ride on Dal Lake visiting floating and Vegetable gardens etc. Also witness walnut woodcarving and papier machie making demonstration.Overnight in Hotel

Day 2

In Srinagar

Morning sightseeing of Mughal Gardens visiting Nishat Bagh (Abode of pleasure) built by Asif Khan brother in law of Jehangir in 1632 AD. And Shalimar Bagh (Abode of love) built by Jehangir for his wife Empress Noor Jehan. All the gardens are situated on the bank of Dal Lake with the Zabarwan Mountains in the background. The distance from Srinagar to the said gardens is about 12 and 15 kms respectively. Also visit Shankaracharya Temple to have Darshan and to have bird’s eye view of Srinagar City and famous Dal Lake. Enroute visit carpet-weaving factory. Afternoon free for personal activities / shopping. Overnight in Hotel

Day 3

Srinagar / Sonamarg/Srinagar

Full day excursion to Sonamarg (Golden Meadow) by Tata Sumo. The distance of about 83 kms will be covered about 2-½ hrs. Sonamarg lies in Sindh Valley streamed with flowers and surrounded by mountains. Sonamarg is also the base for some interesting treks to the high altitude of Himalayan Lakes. Enjoy horse riding upto Thajwas glacier and sledge riding on snow. Late afternoon drive back to Srinagar. Overnight in Hotel

Day 4

Srinagar / Pahalgam

After breakfast drive to Pahalgam (Valley of Shepherds). The distance of about 96 kms will be covered in about 3 hrs. Enroute visiting Saffron fields, Awantipura ruins (1100 years old temple of Lord Vishnu built by King Awantiwareman), see the beautiful countryside on the way and lot of rice fields. Drive through the pine forest. Arrive Pahalgam transfer to Hotel. Afternoon have bridle walks and feed your cameras with the picture of magnificent view of mountains. Overnight in hotel at Pahalgam

Day 5

In Pahalgam

Free for individual activities. One can visit Chandanwari or Aru on ponies. Overnight in hotel

Day 6

Pahalgam/Srinagar / Gulmarg

After breakfast drive to Gulmarg (Meadow of Flowers) 2730 Mts. above sea level. The distance of 160 kms will be covered in about 4-½ hrs. Gulmarg has one of the best Ski slopes in the world and highest golf course of the world with 18 holes. One can also have the view of Nanga Parbhat if weather permits. The view enroute from Tangmarg to Gulmarg is fascinating. One can also have a short trek upto Khilangmarg which can be covered in about 3 hrs. Also enjoy sledge riding on snow. Chair Lifts for mountain ride are also available.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 7

Gulmarg /Srinagar

After breakfast drive back to Srinagar on arrival transfer to Houseboat/Hotel. Rest of the day free for personal activities and last moment shopping. Overnight Houseboat

Day 8

Srinagar Departure

Transfer to airport to catch flight for onward destination.
